Learning Rehabilitation At Incredible Horizons

New learning technology gives us the ability to monitor and teach learning & attention skills. This allows us to provide healthy treatment alternatives that can enhance confidence and optimize attention, memory & learning skills for school and in life.

A child’s academic struggle can be due to malfunctions in the learning process that are deeper than what other programs/tutors can correct. Our educational specialists actually uncover what is going wrong with the learning process and then they correct it. Our programs are founded in educational cognitive psychology to provide the correct environment and challenge to facilitate a change in how the brain functions in learning and life. This allows them to overcome attentional and learning disorders.

Our goal is more than to get passing grades or to “fill in gaps” in learning a certain subject. Our techniques actually repair the learning process and increase your child’s brain power ability to learn. Our supportive assessments and intervention facilitate permanent changes how the brain learns and interprets new information.

We will improve the overall function of the brains capacity to learn for the rest of their life.
Our methods have been carefully developed to deliver superior care and heightened learning opportunities for each child we serve. To that end, our services complement the goals of our program by teaching students though real world experiences and strategies that are essential to physical, cognitive and psychological growth.

We strive to provide the very best learning rehabilitation tools for the creation of a success-based environment that will facilitate the maximization of personal potential.
It is noted if extra fees apply.

NEW in July 2007-
We are proud to be the first school in Florida to offer this tremendous program!!

The Dynamic Listening System (DLS)Tomatis, is the first digital signal processing system to be designed for Tomatis-based auditory training. Beautiful Mozart music and soothing Gregorian chant flow from the state-of-the-art DLS equipment through the high quality Tomatis headphones used by the listener. This increases the capacity to learn by improving how the brain is functioning.

If you are at a stand still or plateau with other therapies-ie. ABA, Floortime etc.-You have probably benefited all you can from that therapy until you improve how the brain actually functions. Programs like ABA and floortime can only be as effective as the current neurological construct allows them to be. The neuro-technology aspect of DLS Tomatis' will improve neurological functioning of the brain thus, maximizing the ability to learn and progress in other therapies. Furthermore, DLS Tomatis has proven itself to be the most refined and efficient Tomatis based program in today's market.  More on Brain Plasticity

Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn more about how this music-based sound stimulation can help you or your child expand your capabilities. Listening training may be your key to living life more fully.

Tomatis Listening programs stimulate the:

  • Auditory system for listening with greater accuracy and focus, tuning out background noise and experiencing less sound sensitivity.
  • Vestibular system for better balance, motor coordination and muscle tone.
  • Brain for improved sensory integration, eye contact, speech, language, thinking, memory and attention span.
  • Emotions for greater motivation, optimism, self-confidence and desire to connect with others.

During an auditory training session, children have fun playing with toys, games, puzzles and crafts such as beading, drawing and painting. (Extra fees are usually needed- Insurance can be billed under speech and language coverage)

IHA innovative programs available to all students to enhance brain power
Offered privately or as part
of Incredible Horizons Academy Curriculum

The Listening Program is a Music-Based Tomatis method that trains the brain to improve the auditory skills needed to effectively concentrate, listen, learn, and communicate. It literally exercises and tones tiny muscles in the ear and helps build stronger multi-sensory pathways in the brain. The brain receives especially rich auditory stimulation, and its ability to process sound improves. TLP helps attention problems, reading/language problems and improves auditory processing abilities.

Computerized Brain Gym-The use of computer programs allows us to document your child’s progress each time they sit down. These game-like brain-training exercises speak to the user in a realistic human voice, making the individual feel as if they are playing a real person who encourages, praises, and challenges them to do their best. They provide an engaging multi-sensory stimulation that builds the brains ability to learn more efficiently.

◄SoundSmart was designed to help improve phonemic awareness, listening skills, math, working memory, mental processing speed, and self-control..

◄Captains Log is a computerized brain gym that will help develop and remediate attention, concentration, memory, eye-hand coordination, basic numeric concepts, problem solving-reasoning skills, self-esteem, and self-control. It is used worldwide to help adults and children (Ages 6 and up) with ADHD, brain injuries, or learning disabilities gain the basic cognitive skills necessary for successful living and learning.

SmartDriver® is a stimulating, entertaining, non-violent driving game designed to improve visual tracking skills, hand-eye coordination, planning, attention to detail, concentration, memory, and patience.

The Lexia family of products improve the student's reading skills through a phonics based, multi-sensory approach. Based on the widely publicized Orton-Gillingham method, Lexia uses a combination of sound, images, and software-based manipulatives. Research has shown that the earlier children with potential reading difficulties can be identified, the easier it is to overcome the reading problems.

◄Phonics Based Reading is for children ages 5 to 8. Phonics Based Reading provides hundreds of exercises for practice in phonemic awareness, sound-symbol correspondence, word attack skills, and early comprehension skills, while introducing nearly 2,000 vocabulary words.

◄Lexia Reading S.O.S. is a reading skills development system designed especially for older students, ages 9 through adult, presented in a mature interface. The activities provide practice in decoding skills, early comprehension, and keyboard skills. Students need to show both competency and fluency in each skill before moving on. Why we chose Lexia for our special needs students

◄Lexia Visual & Cognitive Trainer works on different kinds of "muscles": visualization, visual memory, mental rotation, visual tracking, spatial orientation, and multi-perspective coordination, among other skills. The software helps to strengthen students' thinking, memory, and problem-solving skills, thereby improving performance in varied subjects such as reading, math, science, and social studies. ABA-Applied Behavior Analysis is the design, implementation, and evaluation of environmental modifications to produce socially significant improvement in human behavior.  ABA includes the use of direct observation, measurement, and functional analysis of the relations between environment and behavior. ABA uses these principles to set up an environment in which our kids learn as much as they can as quickly as possible. It may seem odd to use the word "behavior" when talking about learning to talk, play, and function in the educational environment, but to a behaviorist all these can be taught, so long as there are intact brain functions to learn
and practice the skills.

Neurofeedback- Edufeedback is the brand of neurofeedback that we use at Incredible Horizons. Edufeedback is the most comprehensive learning tool because it strengthens the core components of the learning process, teaches academic skills, and applies behavioral modification strategies. Our system is the only learning system to combine real-time feedback with educational protocols that provide specific skill work necessary to be highly successful during the learning process. Edufeedback is the only neurofeedback system with an academic bridge that ensures generalization to learning and life skills. Student health insurance can often be used for her services.

Our speech language pathologist privately offers the Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing Program (LiPS)™. Lindamood-Bell programs are internationally recognized as one of the most effective methods for developing literacy skills. The LiPS® Program successfully stimulates phonemic awareness. Individuals become aware of the mouth actions which produce speech sounds.  This awareness becomes the means of verifying sounds within words and enables individuals to become self-correcting in reading and spelling, and speech.
Student health insurance can often be used for her services.

1 to1 tutoring/direct instruction for all subject areas-We provide the individual attention, personalized lesson plans and the positive reinforcement students need to achieve their goals. Testing for Learning Disabilities
Offered privately or as part
of Incredible Horizons Academy Curriculum as noted
We are under the belief that educational difficulties are seldom psychologically based.
Undergoing huge batteries of tests (that are very costly) is unnecessary.
The following tests are skill based and can be completed in one appointment.
We searched for the best tools that directly test the skills that need to be tested.

This saves you time and money-

The SCAN C/ Scan A will allow us to identify children who have auditory processing disorders and who may benefit from intervention. They should be used when children have normal hearing acuity but who appear to have poor listening skills, short auditory attention span, or difficulty understanding speech. - Given to all IHA students

The Dyslexia Screener: The Dyslexia Screener (TDS) is a direct diagnostic method based on the Boder Reading /Spelling test and the Dyslexia Determination test (DDT). The test evaluates the decoding and encoding of words. Testing will distinguish between the three basic types of dyslexia as well as providing a severity index. Grades 2-9 Given to all IHA students

Frye Diagnostic Test- An extensive diagnostic with five separate evaluations to determine instructional reading grade, comprehension grade level, spelling level, instructional language level, short term memory test
Given to all IHA students

Captain's Log® DOS
is the most widely used, comprehensive set of computerized cognitive training/testing program ever published. This program pinpoints barriers in the learning process. We sort the testing data three different ways by module, by educational skill and by cognitive task. We strengthen those same skills though Captain’s Log- Windows.  Given to select students

IVA (Integrated Visual and Auditory Continuous Performance Test) is a comprehensive computerized test of attention, visual and auditory processing speed, and self control used by health professionals in identifying and diagnosing attention related difficulties.
Given to select students

Neurotransmitter Profiles-
Medical research has shown that many problems associated with today's fast-paced lifestyle can be linked to an imbalance in neurotransmitters and hormone levels. By providing testing, therapeutic, and technical support for these important neuroendocrine parameters, NeuroScience enables healthcare providers to more effectively identify and address the patient’s clinical condition. Testing is a home kit picked up at Incredible Horizons Academy that is mailed directly to lab.

Home School Support Services

The Success Project of Brevard offers expertise in home schooling special needs children. We realize that home schooling often requires more than a textbook to teach from. The Play N Learn store will offer multi sensory teaching items and home school curriculum. Because our staff also interact with the curriculum sold in the store, we can provide a better sense of what you might need to be successful then a regular curriculum store does.

We can coach you through; choosing a curriculum based on your child's learning style and developing an individualized educational plan, as well as grading and testing your child. In choosing our most intensive home schooling support program .

Our computerized curriculum saves you from having to instruct or prepare lessons. Lessons are taught from certified teachers with videos accessed through this system. Its such a relief for students to have this verbal input available with the curriculum. Especially if they are auditory learners. The nice thing is that it it is very affordable too.

We assist Parents with any or all of the following:

Administering diagnostic evaluations for placement in the core subjects
Reviewing results of the evaluation
Assessing which curriculum is best for students learning style
Making recommendations regarding placement in that curriculum
Providing online or printed curriculum
Academic assistance to ensure the students success
Creating timely reports

Special Education & Lexia

Thousands of schools nationwide have made Lexia part of their Special Education programs to help children learn to read better.

Students who struggle with learning often have difficulty with reading comprehension, spoken language, writing, and reasoning ability.  Symptoms such as hyperactivity, inattention, and perceptual coordination problems are also common.  Children with dyslexia, a common learning disability, experience difficulty reading, spelling and writing.  Dyslexic students often suffer from an assortment of other problems including difficulties in math, auditory processing, organizational skills, and memory.

Though a disparity between learning-disabled and non-learning disabled students may always exist, more emphasis on foundational skills, especially those that develop cognitive and reading skills, can help learning-disabled students bridge the gap.  Lexia’s programs provide these skills in a systematic manner of both structured phonics and cognitive skills.  Furthermore, the engaging format of Lexia’s software keeps students interested while still maintaining an educational environment.

Special education students can benefit greatly from Lexia's many different software programs.  Lexia's reading skills software focuses on improving reading comprehension by strengthening phonemic awareness, sound-symbol correspondence, decoding, fluency, phonics and vocabulary.  The software, which serves everyone from 4 year olds to adults, provides students with independent practice and instruction, all of which aligns with curriculum standards and federal guidelines.  Lexia’s cognitive skills programs develop the cognitive skills that underlie visual and conceptual learning and are vital to success in reading, mathematics, science and social science.  Intended for students of ages 7 to adult, Lexia Cross Trainer strengthens their thinking, memory, and problem-solving abilities.

Lexia’s reading programs build strengths in phonemic awareness, sound-symbol correspondence, decoding, fluency, phonics and vocabulary - areas researchers have identified as essential to comprehension.

At each level, students navigate independently through an increasingly complex sequence of engaging, skill-building activities that use age-appropriate graphics and high-quality audio with clear, consistent pronunciation. Students gain competence as the software automatically adjusts to each user’s progress and presents additional practice when necessary.

Based on the proven Orton-Gillingham method of reading remediation, Lexia software provides a structured approach to mastering reading skills that correlates easily with lesson plans and curriculum standards, and aligns with federal guidelines. User-friendly database capabilities help teachers and administrators to monitor individual and group performance over time.
